Big & slow
It's 2:30 PM EDT, September 4th, and Frances is hovering. According to reconnaissance flights, the storm has barely moved. It's now a Category 2, with sustained winds of up to 110 MPH. This thing is huge, though, with hurricane-force winds extending up to 105 miles from the center. It's also slow-moving: not a good combination. Let's hope it weakens before making landfall.
None of my family on the East coast is answering their phones; they've evacuated. They're all from around the Jupiter area, where gusts have been clocked as high as 80 MPH according to the latest report from NOAA.
