Holiday whirl

Is it just me, or do the holidays go by in a blur? I remember when I was a kid, waiting and waiting for Christmas to arrive. Now the time between Thanksgiving and New Year's just seems to be one great big über-holiday, with little time to shop for gifts, clean the remaining stuff off my plate at work, etc., etc. Not that it's unpleasant; it's a crazy time of year, but it's the "good" crazy.

It's been a good holiday. I'm still on break; I get back to work on January 4th. My folks were out here for a week, so we had Christmas with them. It went by too quick; I'm still thinking "when do I have to pick them up at the airport?"

I'm currently sitting here waiting on some test results. I had some blood drawn last week (the vampire/phlebotomist at Sonora Quest left me a nice bruise for Christmas) to see if I have pneumonia. I've had a cold/cough for the last month. It's never been really bad ("stuck in bed" bad), and I've been about 85% functional the whole time. My personal guess is that it'll turn up negative (I was tested for two strains), and I just have an early season cold/cough/mild flu.

It's raining here in Phoenix today, same as yesterday. I suppose some might think it's dreary, but we get so little rain here I kinda like it. The northern part of the county has a severe weather alert for flash floods (a common occurrence here when we get a lot of rain). Here's an excerpt:
DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS SAFELY. VEHICLES CAUGHT IN RISING WATER SHOULD BE ABANDONED QUICKLY. MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.
Duh!

Whoever's reading this, I hope you had a nice Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or whatever you celebrate (Festivus, anyone?).
