Out of service

Drift tube magnet actuators sit unused in a control panel. Originally, these were part of the controls on the linear accelerator (LINAC) at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory's Bevalac synchrotron. The Bevalac, which accelerated beams of protons, is the granddaddy to the Advanced Light Source, and was built in 1954. The beam was shut off for the last time in 1993.

These actuators controlled drift tube magnets in the LINAC, which shield the accelerating proton beam from RF interference. Though they're marked as "ready spares", they're near forty years old, so it's doubtful they'll be used again.
