Arboretum

I paid a visit to the Boyce Thompson Arboretum today. This Arizona State Park is located in Superior, about an hour east of Phoenix. It's located at the foot of Picketpost mountain, and is nestled amidst some stunning scenery. The Arboretum itself is 320 acres of trails, gardens, and educational exhibits about the flora and fauna of the desert southwest. There's tons of shady spots (a welcome respite from the sun in this part of the world), a few greenhouses, a man-made lake, picnic areas, and the requisite cactus garden. There's also areas that you'd normally not find in the desert - a rose garden, an herb garden, and an Australian walkabout. At $7.50 for adults, $3.00 for children (ages 5-12), it's a nice way to spend a day - especially now, when the weather's cooler.

There was also a plant sale going on - cheap! Got some great 3-gallon bougainvilleas for under two bucks!
