In the pool

Against my better judgement, I went and joined a pool at work. We're betting on which of eighteen greed-heads will win the coveted title of "The Apprentice", and get to join "The Donald" in his business. I only caught a few minutes of last night's episode, but no matter: we can't change our votes. I voted for John earlier in the week, and based on what I heard, he did okay.

We made our picks based purely on the bios. My two favorites were Erin ("Book Smarts") and John ("Street Smarts"). Erin's the über-lawyer from Philly with good taste in music (Earth Wind & Fire - love the horns!). John is a jack-of-several trades from Florida with bad taste in music (80's hair metal? Come on!). Someone had already picked Erin, and I'm favorably disposed toward "street smarts", so John it is.

Based on the few minutes I saw, my vote for "most annoying" goes to Danny. Oooh, he dresses like Austin Powers, he must be creative. Apparently, he's the CEO of a company called POPstick, which despite the fact that it sounds like an invasive medical procedure involving the lower gastrointestinal tract is actually a leader in "innovating new media technologies" (translation: "nothing"). With his [forced] "edginess" and steady stream of marketing patter, he comes across as an ersatz version of Steve Jobs from twenty years ago (although while Jobs was backed up by the Woz's brain, Danny is backed up by his own...marketing patter?).
