Back to work
It's hard to get back to work after nearly two weeks off. A few weeks ago, I stayed home in a futile (but fun) attempt to keep up with my two boys (ages 2 and 4). Exhausting, but infinitely more rewarding than going in to work. We did manage to take in the Challenger Space Center in Peoria. Although the boys did enjoy it, it'll be a few years before they can really appreciate it.
Last week found me in New Mexico visiting a friend at a writer's conference (disclosure: she's the writer; as you well know if you're a frequent reader of this blog, I can string words together into coherent sentences with only varying success). I managed to see and do a lot in New Mexico: besides getting together with friends, I got in a side trip to Los Alamos, took a backstage tour of the Santa Fe Opera (at $5 for a one hour tour, it's a bargain, and a very cool experience to boot), and enjoyed walking around downtown Santa Fe.
The Museum of International Folk Art at Museum Hill was quite enjoyable. If you go, be sure to see the Girard Wing (or, as I call it, the "Sensory Overstimulation Room").
What I didn't get accomplished was a planned photo shoot at Sandia National Laboratories' National Solar Thermal Test Facility (the "Solar Tower"). Sandia had kindly set up a tour for me on Thursday, but it was cancelled. Since George Bush is there today to sign the energy bill (he took a tour of the National Solar Thermal Test Facility), Sandia needed last week to deal with the Secret Service advance team.
