Denied
I was denied my dream job today when the College of Cardinals at the Vatican elected Joseph Ratzinger as the next pope. Benedict XVI, as he calls himself (his first choice, "50 Cent", was taken) hails from Germany and is described as a conservative.
My hopes were dashed when it became clear that I didn't get a single vote from the conclave. Okay, so I'm not a priest, I'm not Catholic, I am married, and I don't believe in transubstantiation. That aside, I'd make a great pope. The fact that I'm not Catholic would simply make me a new breed of pope. I guess it's back to the want ads for me.

The rules technically say that any baptised Catholic male is eligible for the pontificate. It's just tradition to elect popes from among the cardinals.
So while you jest about missing out, I actually had a genuine shot at becoming the new pope.
Oh well, maybe I'll get lucky in a few years or so.
