Batting a thousand
I'm exremely fortunate - I got two job offers today. Two interviews, two offers - it doesn't get much better. Offer #1 is with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, at the brand new Janelia Farms Research Campus in Ashburn, Virginia. Offer #2 is at GE Nuclear, in Wilmington, North Carolina. Both are software development jobs, though in different areas (HHMI does biomedical research, and the GE Nuclear group I interviewed with does reactor core monitoring).
It ain't gonna be an easy decision to choose between the two. The decision to leave my present job at "Electric General" (oh, okay, it's GE) isn't difficult at all. Don't get me wrong, I think GE is a great company - one of the best - it's just that they left all of the senior management in place from the last company that ran us. You see, Motorola sold my division to a company who shall remain nameless (okay, here's a hint: the word "sham" is in the name) in 2002. GE bought us in 2004.
I'll give myself until Friday to decide.
